Japan’s electronics giant Panasonic to launch robot vacuum cleaner

TOKYO, January  24 — Japan’s electronics maker Panasonic Corp. has developed a new robot vacuum cleaner, the first time for the company to enter the robot vacuum market, local media reported Thursday.

The Osaka-based company will start selling the cleaner, the Rulo MC-RS1, on March 20 in Japan, with sales in overseas markets to follow.

The new robot vacuum cleaner has a triangular shape as a survey of customers showed that they are unhappy with circular robot vacuums because they are unable to pick up dust in the corners of rooms.

The retail price of the Rulo MC-RS1 is expected to be at around 108,000 yen (about US$ 917).

Demand of the robot vacuum cleaner is expected to grow due to Japan’s aging society and more women entering the workplace. (Xinhua)
